“Rodney served in the Seven Years’ War and, in April 1782, won a famous victory over Count de Grasse’s French fleet at the islets called the Saintes, near Dominica. Although it sounds like a hornpipe there is a set dance that goes with the tune, so it’s referred to as a set-dance rather than a generic hornpipe. You can normally tell if it’s a set dance because of the uneven parts – e.g. the A being shorter than the B, or unusual timings.
